While showing a prospective client the other day who was from out of state he asked. “So what is there to do around here?”
It took me by surprise a little since my time between family, work, and farm has me busy nearly every hour. I had to stop and think about what people do in our local area.
Naturally, the first idea that came to my mind was trout fishing. As a fly angler I know our area has some of the best cold water fisheries in the country! I spoke about the different locations for wild streams and trout parks nearby. Meramec Spring, Bennett Springs, and Montauk are the first that came to my mind.
The next topic we found ourselves discussing was biking. Road biking to be exact. I found myself recalling the time in which the Tour de Missouri was active and we completed part of the stage in this area. Cherryville to Rolla. 65 miles of the hardest road biking I have ever completed. I hit the wall with about 10 miles left to go, but I made it at last!
Climbing, canoeing/rafting, hiking and many other numerous outdoor activities our region offers.
I also brought up the fact that we are located in wine country. There are many wineries locally and that offer tours, and more importantly samples! St. James Winery located in St. James is our nearest.
Another option in the adult beverage world is Public House Brewing Company in Rolla and in St. James! This locally owned craft brewery has an amazing atmosphere and their creations are second to none!
We are surround by thousands of acres of state and national forest which provides opportunities for hunting, horseback riding, off-roading, spelunking, and exploring.
If there is something else that you are curious about or need additional information on bounce over to my contact form and let me know how I can help! Get out there!
