After the long awaited update due to budget cuts the Department of Defense has indicated the number of personal that will be cut from Fort Leonard Wood.
Before that let me flash back to the listening session months earlier at Nutter Field House. I had an appointment in Rolla that afternoon and planned to travel to Fort Wood once done, and I thought "I need to grab some Rolla folks to go as well." After a call I found some folks who were going also, so we rode together. The idea was to pack that facility to the brim showing the Department of Defense that Fort Wood is a base of high importance to our nation. Once we arrived I was blown away at how many people were there.
As the start time neared for the presentation to the folks from the Pentagon, Nutter was packed and others were spilling over to another facility to hear the session.
The one thing that astoudned me more than anything else was the huge number of elected officials. The Governor, Senators and Representatives, and other state officials. It was an amazing show of support for our state, along with so many other business owners, public figures, etc.
The rumor at that time was a reduction of over 5000 military folks cut. This was a scary figure for our community.
Now on to the news...
The US Army has indicated a reduction of 774 uniformed troops by the end 2017 according to a joint statement from Senators Blunt and McCaskill and Representative Hartzler.
We are now able dissolve the scuttlebutt and hearsay that has run rampant in this market holding it back. I now believe that we are now positioned to move forward in a positive direction. The cutback fears I feel have plagued Pulaski County residential and commercial transactions. I hope that this news, albeit not fantastic, is far more positive than the original thought will spur an awaking of Pulaski County.
The last part...
After we waited for all elected officials to leave and we exited the building. I notcied all the Missouri State Representatives loaded their bus to return to the Capital building. I walked inches from the front bumper before they departed, I assume that the bus driver was a joker, because he blasted his horn. Naturally, like many folks I nearly lost all bodily functions, and after a minor emergency medical procedure, I regained my composure once the extreme amount of adrenaline coursing through my veins subsided. I'm sure that most all witnesses laughed uncontrollably for days. My hope is that this post will also spawn a YouTube video of the incident for my viewing pleasure!
In the end I am grateful that this happened to me and not someone with a weaker cardiovascular system!
